Encampment- Hippie Camp 2010
Not to tired from our Disney trip which we just came back on Monday we headed out on Friday to Shadow Rim for the Hippie Camp 2010 Two Rivers Encampment. We stopped in Payson for dinner at McDonalds. We ended up at camp around 8:30 where we checked into our cabins in the Settlers. We had three Cabins with the younger girls in one cabin and the older girls in the other. The girls unloaded and played in their cabins till late at night.
Sat we woke up and headed to the special 9-11 flag raising ceremony. Which was really nice. The girls had pancakes for breakfast then headed for their first session: Solar Oven Making. They made solar ovens from pizza boxes and made mini pizzas from english muffins. The second session the girls did splatter painting. They were given bandana's and they sprayed them with different colors. For their 3rd session they went canoeing. No one swamped their canoe but they had fun paddling around the pake. Time for lunch so the girls headed to the lodge for sub sandwiches. After lunch the girls got to take a break and make some pet rocks and take a break back at their cabins (some headed to the creek for a creek walk). Then the girls headed over to make walking sticks where they got to burn designs into their walking sticks. After a quick snack they headed over to do their last session and made tie dyed shirts. Then it was time for a scavenger hunt and then a speggetti dinner. Afterwards some of the girls were tired and wanted to go back to their cabins while some went to roast marshmellows at a campfire.
Totally exhausted their girls woke up early to pack and load and clean camp. Then it was time to say goodbye and head home. After a quick stop at McDonalds for an ice cream break we headed home.

Disneyland Trip
Sept 3-6
First the girls bundled into the van for an 8 hour trip to the beach and Disneyland. California here we come! We stopped midway for lunch at Carls Jr and the girls were greatful to get out and stretch. They were doing great! We were amazed there was no complaining at all about being squished or the long trip, they were just to excited about going to California and kept asking if they were in California yet.
We arrived at the Huntington Beach around 2:00 and it was absolutely gorgeous outside. The weather was perfect for the beach. First thing the girls change into their suits and headed to the beach. You should have seen their faces as they hit the sand for the first time. One of the girls even turned to us and asked if the sand was real! They were just amazed at how soft the sand was. Once down by the water they loved exploring the beach. They made sand castles, buried themselves in the sand, dug for crabs, and played in the water. We were amazed to look and see two dolphins playing in the waves not ten yards from where the girls were playing. Around 6:00 we decided it was time to leave. The girls didnt want to leave but they were also excited to go to their hotel. We reminded them to go to bed early so they would be able to get up early and head to Disney. They were so tired from playing at the beach they ate some pizza and headed straight to bed.
Sat we got up early and headed to Disney. After a quick stop at the entrance for some special pins celebrating their first day at Disney and the Parade of Stars on Main St. We decided to do Fantasyland first. They rode, Peter Pan, Mr Toads Wild Ride, Snow White, Pinocchio & Dumbo. Then we had to run to the California for our 10am class Animation Magic that they did as a special class for Girl Scouts. We rode the double decker bus to the front of the park where they made a special annoucement for the troop to have a great day at Disneyland which the girls were trilled over.
Over at the California they took their 3 hour class with a Disney specialist that walked them through all aspects of animating a Disney movie. They learned about storyboards, then how basic animation works by making some simple cartoons themselves, then they were off to learn about how to put voices into the characters by putting their own voices into popular cartoon characters, they got to take a special drawing class with a Disney artist and learned to draw a character step by step like the disney artists to it. They went to the show with Crush (computer animated character from Nemo) and afterwards they were invited to stay where they got to have a special question and answer with crush and the girls were so excited to get to ask questions and have them answered by crush. Afterwards the girls got to produce and put on a play from beginning to end about Mickey and Friends going to the beach. All in all very educational and fun class.
Of course starving they headed over to Ariels Grotto where they got to have lunch with the Princesses. The girls loved being able to meet all the princesses while they ate.
Since we were at the California they decided to do many of the rides at the California before heading back over to Disney. They braved California Screamin, Tower of Terror, Rapids and Soarin over California which was a favorite. We also went on Monsters Inc and the Bugs Life rides. We watched the 3-d Muppets and Bugs Life shows. We got to see the High School Musical Parade before heading back to Disneyland.
Over a Disney we started with the Jungle Ride, Indiana Jones, ending just in time for the girls to grab a snack and watch a part of Fantasmic while we headed over to Thunder Mountain. Then we wandered over to the Bobsleds and caught the Fireworks display. We went on the Tea Cups. Then it was time for Space mountain. Then the girls decided to run back and ride Indiana Jones while the rest of us headed towards the exit. We left Disney at 12:30 am what a long day!
Not to slow them down they were up bright and early where we headed over to Disneyland again. Where we headed to Its A Small World and Rabbits Wild Ride in Toon Town where they explored Toon Town for a bit before hopping onto the train and getting off in Tomorrowland where we rode the Nemo Submarines, Buzz Lightyear, Space Mountain again, Then it was time for lunch so we headed over to the Pirates of the Carribean then lunch at the Blue Bayou. After lunch we headed over to ride Poohs Ride and Splash Mountain. Then it was time to head back to California where went on Screamin again. We picked up our Color of Wonder dinners ate then went over to watch the Color of Wonder. On our way out we split up so some of the girls could go on the Tower of Terror and the rest of us headed over to Soarin over California. Then it was time to leave. We left around 12:00 am after another long day.
Monday we packed up and headed home.

We decided to take the girls to the Build a Bear workshop for a special Girl Scout class. The girls were able to pick a bear, stuff the bear, and dress their bear in a Girl Scout Uniform. They had a special host that walked them through the process and even helped the girls earn the math try-it. They measured themselves, guessed how many hearts were in a jar, searched for shapes in the store and did another activity. After we grabbed an ice cream with our teddy bears.

Overnight at the Phoenix Zoo
April 10th Overnight at the Phoenix Zoo-Zoo Nights
Well we got all our sleeping bags together and headed to the zoo. We had pizza and lemonade for dinner. Then went for a night hike to see some nocturnal animals and hear some interesting stories about the animals. After the hike the girls all got together in the animal hall and got to see some critters up close and even got to pet a few of them! Back up to where we ate, we had a snack before we grabbed our gear and walked to the campsite. Where we had a huge tent set up for all of us. The staff came in and showed the girls how to make knots and even brought a few more animals with them. Afterwards the girls got to go sit around a camp fire and tell stories, sing songs and learn more about animals. You would think that the girls would be tired with the all the hiking etc but even though it was 11:00 they were all wide awake. Reminding them that they had to be up at 6:00am for breakfast before another hike we tried to get the girls to sleep. Around 12:00 they had all fallen asleep.
Some of us woke up to the Lions roaring at 3:00-5 in the morning. Up early the girls were the first in camp all cleaned, packed and dressed for the morning. They got to wander down and see the rhinos playing in the early morning. After breakfast the girls stored the gear, played a sleeping bag roll up game and headed towards their morning hike. By 9:00 the girls were ready to head home.
Everyone loved loved the zoo!

April 3rd G.E.A.R Day
April 3rd, GEAR DAY
We were lucky that most of the girls were able to go to GEAR Day at ASU. The engineering department hosted a special day for the girl scouts to come down and learn about how to become engineers. The girls got to learn all about the different degrees/fields of engineering. They concentrated on demonstrating 3 of them.
For their Chemical Engineering, they got to "solve a crime", by testing ink strains they were able to tell which of the 4 pens wrote the ransom note. They had so much solving the crime!
For electrical engineering they assembled an electrical board with wires and light bulbs and batteries to create a "steady hand game" where they had to pass a wand through wires with out touching the wires and making the light bulb light up.
For the physical engineering they created a catapult that could sling their balls. Creating it from scratch the girls had a blast putting it all together.
The girls absolutely enjoyed their morning spent at ASU and quite a few of the girls would now like to be engineers when they grow up. How fun!

Cookie Sells Finally Over
Whew okay so we all had a long cookie season and are so glad its finally over! Amazingly the girls had fun and sold alot of cookies! In total the girls sold 12,000 cookies! Thats a lot of boxes of cookies loaded, unloaded, reloaded and dragged around. The girls worked hard thats for sure. They had a record amount of Gift of Caring over 260 boxes! The cookies were delivered to the Apache Junction Police Department where the girls had earlier in the year gone on a tour. The Chief of Police came out to personally thank the girls for all the troops effort in collecting the boxes and assured them the police officers would love their cookie treats. The girls also delivered almost a 150 boxes to the AJ Fire Departments.
We had 5 girls sell over 1000 (3 over 2,000), 9 girls sell over 500 which is just amazing!
They will use their money to fund outings with their Troop over the next year. Way to go Girls!

Ostrich Festival
March 12-14
We were so excited to hear that we were one of the lucky groups selected to come set up a booth during the festival to sell cookies. We had to go early Friday morning to set up the booth and keep it going through Sunday evening. The girls had so much fun switching between selling cookies and exploring the festival. They got to see the Ostrich Races and went on most of the rides.

Disney's Mary Poppin's
Feb 25th
We took the girls to Disney's Mary Poppins Broadway Musical. Unfortuneatly they had the event on a Thursday so the girls were too tired to stay the whole time so we had to leave during intermission. The show was great and the girls loved listening to the songs on the way home. Hopefully next time they will be able to stay the whole time :)

Postcard Exchange
Well we finally have our Postcard Exchange cards done! We participated with other troops around the United States and even in Europe. Not to much fit on the little postcards so we just shared our blog with the other troops. If they made it here, WELCOME :)
Our Troop:
We have a large troop of 16 girls! We have 4 Daisy's, 9 brownies and 3 Juniors. The girls work hard to earn at least one badge every month and we go on at least two outings a month! We are currently planning some camping trips for the fall, yeah!
Arizona-
Weather-- We love the dry heat! It is hot hot here 6 months of the year May-Oct with the 3 months of June, July and August hitting triple digits. Its hot hot hot! Makes for perfect weather to hang out by the pool (in the shade of course!) Its really only cold 50's-60's a couple months usually Dec and Jan, which makes it hard to get into the Christmas spirit when it is sunny and warm during the day while your out shopping but on the flip side we dont have sidewalks to shovel either (snow--whats that!). The rest of the year Feb-April and Nov are a nice balmy 80's out. Gotta love the warmth here for sure!
Animals-- Okay so everyone always asks whether we have snakes and scorpions all over the place. Well the answer is yes and no! Believe it or not some people living in more populated areas never see scorpions or snakes their whole lives! For some of us that live out in the less developed areas (desert) we see all kinds of fun stuff. In our yard we have seen: Scorpions, snakes (the whip snake which jumps 5 feet in the air and lives in trees, the king snake which hunts the rattler and of course the rattler), havelinas (wild pigs with HUGE tusks) and believe me they look scary, coyotes, hila monsters (huge lizards that can get as big as 4 ft) bobcats, and even had two mountain lions sunning themselves in our backyard. Of course we have lots of cutie animals in our backyard like bunnies, jack rabbits, quail, roadrunners, and these little animals that we call kangaroo rats (we dont know what they are officially called) but they look like large mice and they will jump at you if you suprise them. They have a thing for eating rubber, esp the coating on wires. Makes it tuff to keep old cars around :) Okay so how often have I seen these animals? We typically see about 6-10 scorpions in our house every year. So far we have all avoided being bit but have been told it feels alot like a bee sting. Snakes- at least once a month. Coyotes, bunnies, quail and road runners every single day!! The havelinas were everyday for awhile but then we havent seen them for months so who knows. Everything else likes to keep well hidden (works for us!)
Things to do: We love hiking and have the worlds best trails to go on. The girls last year went hiking on Superstition Trails and had a blast finding the different cactus, lizards and wildlife on the way. They got to see the Holokom Indian pictograghs that are hundreds of years old. They still talk about how much fun it was! Camping is always fun too. We live about 2-6 hours from the various camps in the mountains here and the girls love love going to camp. Of course swimming pools and water parks are a favorite hang out too! We are planning a trip next year to go to the natural rock waterslides they have here.
Thanks for visiting our Troop and letting us share a bit of us with you!

Cookie Rally 2010
Friday the girls headed to the 2010 Cookie Rally. They learned the names of the new cookies, got to taste to some cookies, play games and get excited about selling the cookies. Of course, they got their cookie order forms which quite a few couldnt wait to get! The whole troop made it, which is great since it was the first time the troop did an outing with everyone!
